What this tool is for

Convert a PNG into a widely accepted JPG for email, upload forms, older apps, or photo workflows. This is most useful when transparency is not needed and compatibility matters more than lossless storage.

How to use it

  1. Choose a PNG image up to 50MB.
  2. Select Process Image; there are no extra conversion settings.
  3. Wait for the browser to create the JPG.
  4. Download the result and check any formerly transparent areas.

What happens to your image

The browser draws the PNG pixels onto a white canvas and exports a new JPEG. This local re-encoding removes PNG transparency and does not upload the source image.

Practical uses

  • Upload a PNG photo to a form that accepts JPG only.
  • Turn a large screenshot into a more shareable photo file.
  • Prepare an image for an older editor that does not handle PNG well.
  • Convert a graphic before attaching it to an email.

What happens to transparency?

JPG has no alpha channel, so it cannot store transparent pixels. GuavaPix places those areas on white. JPG also uses lossy compression, which is efficient for photographs but can soften text and sharp graphic edges.

Important limitations

  • Transparency becomes white.
  • JPEG compression can introduce artifacts around text and sharp edges.
  • Converting does not improve the source resolution.
  • Animated PNG content is not preserved as animation.

Frequently asked questions

Will the JPG be smaller than the PNG?

Often for photographs, but not always for simple graphics. The result depends on the source content and existing optimization.

Can JPG keep a transparent background?

No. JPG does not support transparency, so GuavaPix uses white behind transparent areas.

Is PNG or JPG better for screenshots?

PNG is usually sharper for interface text. JPG can be smaller when the screenshot contains a lot of photographic content.

Does conversion remove PNG metadata?

The new JPG is created from decoded pixels, so source-specific PNG metadata is not copied into the output.
