What this tool is for
Remove the outer parts of an image and keep the largest centered square. This is useful for avatars, product thumbnails, profile pictures, and square graphics when you do not need manual crop positioning.
How to use it
- Choose an image up to 50MB.
- Review the source knowing the crop will be centered.
- Select Process Image to keep the largest centered square.
- Download the result and confirm the important subject was not near an outer edge.
What happens to your image
GuavaPix calculates the largest square inside the image, removes equal outer areas from the longer side, and exports the centered result locally.
Practical uses
- Create a square social profile image.
- Turn a landscape product photo into a centered thumbnail.
- Prepare an image before using the Instagram resizer.
- Remove empty side space around a centered subject.
Centered square crop
Cropping changes composition rather than stretching pixels. A landscape image loses content from the left and right; a portrait image loses content from the top and bottom. The output side length is based on the shorter source dimension.
Important limitations
- The crop position is centered and cannot be dragged manually.
- The output is square only.
- Important subjects near an edge can be cut off.
- Cropping does not remove a background or detect faces.
Frequently asked questions
Can I choose the crop area?
The current tool uses the largest centered square automatically; it does not provide a draggable crop box.
Does cropping reduce quality?
It removes pixels outside the selected square but does not enlarge the kept area in this step.
Will the output be square?
Yes. The tool always creates a centered square result.
Should I crop or resize first?
Crop first when composition must change, then resize the square to the required pixel dimensions.
